Decommissioning work started at the Holzhausen wind farm

Holzhausen/Cuxhaven 28 March 2023. Decommissioning work begins today at the Holzhausen wind farm. The goal of all project partners is to safely and completely dismantle the facility, in order to re-erect a turbine in the same location as quickly as possible. The decommissioning is necessary because the concrete tower has defects.

The safe and rapid decommissioning of the plant is of the highest priority for all stakeholders. For this reason, a refurbishment concept has been chosen that involves replacing the concrete tower in order to get the turbine back into operation as quickly as possible.

The entire dismantling process will be carried out by experts in close coordination with all responsible authorities and taking all specifications into account. The necessary dismantling work, as well as the construction activities, are heavily dependent on weather conditions.

The decommissioning work at the turbine is carried out in individual stages: the rotor blades, hub, nacelle and the upper part of the tower – a steel structure – are dismantled. Subsequently, the remaining concrete tower will be brought down in a controlled manner via a targeted demolition – a common method worldwide for the safe and rapid decommissioning of concrete structures.

In the coming weeks, preparations will begin for the new construction. The wind turbine, with a capacity of 4.5 megawatts, is to be rebuilt on the same site this year and will generate clean electricity.
