With the planning and construction of biomass plants and the production of biomass, Umwelt Management AG offers an important and innovative energy source that fits seamlessly into the area of sector coupling and the expansion of new and innovative energy concepts. This is our way of making a considerable contribution to climate protection and the expansion of renewable energy concepts.

Our first project in the biomass sector was developed in 2013: with the Elsfleth power plant. In 2020, we were able to set a second milestone with the construction of the biomass cogeneration plant in Dollbergen. Further projects are in the planning stages.

The technical and economic potential of modern bioenergy as an energy source is very high, because biomass is versatile: it can be made available as a solid, liquid, or gaseous energy source, it can be used to generate heat and electricity, and it can replace fuels. This makes it the most versatile of all alternative forms of energy. In addition, the use of biomass can promote the development of rural areas. However, the use of residual and waste materials could also play an important long-term role as balancing energy – to compensate for the fluctuations of directly generated wind and solar energy.

Biomass Power Plants Dollbergen

At our site in Dollbergen/Lower Saxony, we built a biomass cogeneration plant with Koehler Renewable Energy GmbH in 2019/2020. This plant, which was planned on the basis of the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG 2017), launched in May 2020 and has been producing around 67,860 megawatt hours of electricity per year. The total investment was 42 million euros.

With natural wood being the main fuel in Dollbergen, we use combined heat and power technology to simultaneously generate electricity and process steam. The source of the wood includes landscape conservation wood, roadside wood, forest residues from mechanical processing, wood chips and industrial residues, as well as screen overflow from composting. Some 130,000 tons are required per year.

The advantage of the location directly next to the customer AVISTA OIL and the supply of steam to the customer as well as the high competence of the partners in the development, planning and operation of biomass plants makes this project extremely attractive for all parties involved.
