25 years ago, graduate businessman Uwe Leonhardt founded a one-man business in Cuxhaven. Today, it has developed into a medium-sized company in the field of project planning, construction, and operation of power generation plants powered by wind, solar, and biomass, with over 50 employees at two locations – Cuxhaven and Oldenburg. Together with Heiko Roß, who was appointed to the board of UMaAG at the beginning of 2021 and complements commercial expertise with technical know-how, both are continuing to develop the company for the future with a young management team.
The original idea 25 years ago, that renewable energies play a crucial role in the fight against climate change, began with a focus on financing wind energy projects. In the meantime, the business areas have been expanded to include photovoltaics, biomass and ecological building, as well as complete energy concepts. The combined experience, and the joy and ambition in the constant development and expansion of renewable energies, are reflected in the sustainable success of this medium-sized company. A modern and open working atmosphere characterises UMaAG; all employees address each other informally. The company concept also includes support for those returning to work after maternity leave, as well as flexibility for the next generation regarding childcare. From e-bikes to e-cars, to mobile working or working in an energy-efficient office building, built to the latest energy standards – Umwelt Management AG places great importance on authentic and sustainable working and living.
Uwe Leonhardt is now also involved in political communication, is active in various industry and nature conservation organisations, and maintains close contacts with local, state, and federal politics. „Especially in these turbulent times, it is crucial that politics sets the right framework conditions for industry. Germany can remain an attractive location. Reliable framework conditions are of great importance in this regard. Helping to develop these and providing our politicians with reliable information from our industry in order to create sensible legislative proposals is what drives my colleague on the board Heiko Roß and me in particular.“ Heiko Roß adds: „The old legislation in the energy industry sector does not work for the future system. We need clearly defined energy law with clear guidelines and a simply structured definition for those involved.“
Uwe Leonhardt and Heiko Roß have been strengthened for operative and strategic work by a young leadership team, who are particularly tasked with further developing the core business of wind: Daniel Schütte, Erik Breuer, and Mathis Klepper have been appointed as managing directors of UMaAG Wind GmbH and are therefore responsible for the wind business of Umwelt Management AG in Germany. At the same time, all three, in addition to Kerstin Schütte, received a Prokura (power of attorney) for Umwelt Management AG UMaAG.
Daniel Schütte, Erik Breuer and Mathis Klepper have been working in the renewable energy sector for over 10 years and possess extensive knowledge and experience, as well as a broad network. „We would like to thank Uwe Leonhardt for his unwavering trust in allowing us to take over and further drive forward Umwelt Management AG. We look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the energy transition together with the management board and the experienced UMaAG team. Together we will tackle the current challenges: for example, we will work even more closely with the authorities to efficiently implement new approval opportunities, refine modern participation models for municipalities, or develop new approaches in electricity marketing. At the same time, we are looking for motivated employees who want to drive the energy transition forward with us.“
Umwelt Management AG UMaAG was founded in 1998 and offers future-oriented solutions in the fields of renewable energy generation (wind, solar, biomass) and holistic building construction. With 216 wind turbines in 35 wind farms under commercial management, 48 wind turbines in 12 wind farms under technical management, and a total output of 660 MW including biomass, UMaAG is one of the driving forces behind the expansion of renewables in Germany.
