Heat transition in rural areas

The heat transition often overlooks rural communities with older buildings, where climate-friendly solutions are difficult to implement.

When discussing the heat transition, a look at the relevant media often gives the impression that it is primarily about heat pumps in single-family homes with varying levels of heat consumption. Little attention, however, is paid to small communities in rural areas, whose building fabric is often decades or even centuries old and can frequently only be energetically renovated with great effort or high costs. In such villages, many buildings are still heated by individual oil or wood-based heating systems. However, the use of modern, climate-friendly technologies in these individual buildings often exceeds the financial means of the owners and leads to frustration – even though they too want to contribute to a sustainable and affordable heat supply.
