Repowering Bredenborn

High-performance NORDEX N-149 wind turbine close to commissioning

Cuxhaven/Bredenborn 05.09.2022. As part of a repowering project, a new wind turbine has been erected in Bredenborn over the past few months by Umwelt Management AG and its partners.

In repowering, older systems are replaced by a smaller number of new ones that are state-of-the-art and have higher performance. This means significantly more electricity is generated with fewer systems in the same area. Repowering projects therefore make a significant contribution to enabling renewable energy generation sustainably and countering climate change with renewable energy production.

In Bredenborn, two VESTAS V47 wind turbines with a hub height of 65 m and one NEG MICON NM 52/900 wind turbine with a hub height of 80 m (2,200 kW) were dismantled, and a new NORDEX N-149 wind turbine with a hub height of 164 m and a total output of 5,700 kW was erected. The operator of the turbines was and is Windkraft Bredenborn GmbH & Co. Repower II KG, in which Umwelt Management AG from Cuxhaven and its partners hold shares.

The commissioning of the new wind turbine is currently being carried out together with Nordex. The technical and commercial operational management will also be undertaken by Umwelt Management AG UMaAG from Cuxhaven, as with the previous turbines.

Umwelt Management AG would like to thank the Höxter district, the towns of Marienmünster and Nieheim, the landowners, and the companies Nolte, Schaperdot, and DUS Kabelmontage for their excellent cooperation. UMaAG regrets the temporary inconveniences caused by road closures and transport, which were ultimately overcome together.

Uwe Leonhardt, Vorstand of Umwelt Management AG, explained: „Even small repowering projects like this one, with a single turbine, send a strong signal to citizens and politicians. We can accelerate the energy transition with more powerful turbines. To put it into perspective: we generate approximately 12,000 MWh/a with this single turbine, an amount of energy sufficient to supply 3,400 households with electricity per year. Many thanks to everyone involved.“
